Ahh… the BEACH! There’s nothing quite like it. Whether you live by the beach full-time, part-time or just vacation here once in a while, there are certain things that people familiar with beachfront living know that other people just don’t understand. If you live in Panama City Beach or along any beach for that matter, here are 10 things that only people that live by the beach truly understand.
#1. The beach is not just for summer.
Especially in places like Florida and the Gulf Coast. These warm winters, fall and spring’s are perfect times to enjoy the weather and the beach regardless of the time of year. The beach can actually get quite hot in the summer time, especially in Florida, but that warm water is just cool enough to make it refreshing.
#2. You take it personally when people leave trash on the beach.
The beach is really like your backyard and when people leave trash, you’re kind of offended by it. Try to remember that if you leave trash on the beach, you’re technically doing it in someone’s backyard.
#3. You’re never bored of the view.
And just about any problem seems miles away when you’re sitting on the beach, listening to the waves and watching the water rolling around your toes.
#4. You understand that there are places in your life that will never be sand free.
These include your car, clothes, pets, hair, and even your house, and that’s okay.
#5. The smell and the sounds will get you every time.
You just never get tired of hearing the lapping of the waves on the beach nor the salty sea air. It not only brings back memories but it creates new ones and gives you a sense of calm and peace.
#6. You’re a little annoyed by tourists.
You have the feeling like, “this is my beach”. You understand that the economy needs to thrive with tourists especially in places like Panama City Beach, but you kind of wish they would be less intrusive. You want to be friendly and welcoming but somewhere deep down you feel like it’s trespassing on your beach.
#7. You don’t own winter wear.
80% of your attire is beachwear. Sometimes you can easily forget that you own any other close by Bermuda shorts, swimsuits, trunks, wraps, flip-flops, and slowly shirts.
#8. You don’t understand people that don’t like the beach.
That’s like saying you don’t like to breathe or eat. You simply don’t understand these people regardless of why they don’t like the beach. (Maybe they were traumatized some shark attack when they were young) It doesn’t matter, they’re weird.
#9. You respect the ocean.
You’re not one of those tourists that turn your back on the ocean or get out too far knowing that you might not make it back. You have a deep respect for the ocean and you value it, treasure it, and honor it.
#10. You’re glad not everyone lives here.
If everyone lived at the beach they’d be way too crowded. You kind of relish in the fact that you live here and others just visit. You’ll be nice to the tourists, and pleasantly wave goodbye when they had home to wherever their home is not on the beach.
